BROKE PROBATION

YOUNG WOMAN CONVICTED GOT INTO BAD COMPANY On October 12, 1929, Dorothy Maude Hawkins was admitted to probation for two years. Because she did not report she was brought before the court again today. Hawkins, a domestic, aged 22 pleaded guilty to failing to compb with the terms and conditions of hei probation. On entering the dock she began to cry bitterly. Major Annie Gordon said that ac cused was also getting into bad com pany and last week-end had gone “joy-riding” to Thames. Her origina conviction was for assisting in the management of a house of ill-repute

“Now, look here. Are you going to behave yourself if we give you a chance?” asked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. of accused, who wept and said nothing. "I don’t want to bring her before the court again,” said Major Gordon. "However, she has become so used to dealing with me that she just ignores me.”

Mr. Hunt, to accused: Will you do what I tell you if I treat you leniently? “They won't leave me alone. They are always hounding me down at my home,” said Hawkins.

“That’s not true,” said Major Gordon. “Her mother is a very respectable woman and has promised to help keep her away from bad company.”

Mr. Hunt convicted accused and ordered her to come up for sentence when called upon.
