RED POLLS
SUCCESS AT LONDON DAIRY SHOWS
At the 1928 London Dairy Show (there was no show in 1927), when as in other years not a single Red Poll was disqualified (it frequently happens that other breeds suffer from this disability, on account of the butter fat being below the requisite standard), the Red Polls did exceedingly well in butter production, being second among the heaviest yielding breeds with a ration of lib of butter from 161 b 9oz of milk.
The periodical tests of whole herds show butter-fat averages ranging from 3.8 per cent, to 4.2 per cent., thfe latter being the record of the Tansor herd in Northamptonshire. The 4 per cent, •tests for the Sporle herd, the largest in the breed, is worthy of special emphasis. At the London Dairy Shows,, which are essentially national in character, the Red Poll breed from 1923 onwards has, always remembering it is dualpprpose in character, done exceedingly well in the inter-breed contests with the purely dairy breeds such as Shorthorns, Ayrshires, and British Friesians. Each successive «how has, through the medium of the Milk Trials and'other contests, illustrated that milk persistency and good average yields of good quality milk are obtainable from well fleshed Red Polls.
