PERSONAL.—Captain J. Flynn ha been appointed to command the Wai kawa, relieving Captain A. Reed for further instructions.

Mr. J. B. Gibson has joined the Wai kouaiti as second officer, relieving Mr. L R. Lecler for holidays.

Mr. C. Strong has been appointed second officer of the Karetu, relieving Mr. A. .1. McKenzie for orders.

Mr. J. J. Allan has relieved Mr. S. T. Makins as third officer of the Wainui.

Mr. A. L. Wilkinson, third officer of the Karetu. recently left the vessel at Sydney, and Mr. D. R. McPhail is being appointed to succeed him.

BRYNYMOR’S SAILING. —The Brynymor. which was due at Westport on Thursday night from Wellington to bunker, is to proceed to Sydney to load wheat for the United RLingdom. SPEYBANK REPORTS—The motor-ship Speybank, 5,154 tons, owned by Andrew Weir and Co., Ltd., passed Wellington Heads bound east at 2.45 a.m. on Thursday. The Speybank is on her way from Calcutta and Batavia to Chilje. THE GABRI ELLA.—The Union Company’s steamer Gabriella was to leave Wanganui yesterday for Greymouth, after which she will proceed to Sydney and Newcastle. THE SOUTHERN CROSS. The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross is to sail on Monday or Tuesday on her periodic trip round the Pacific Islands mission stations. THE BRUNSWICK COMING.—The Atlantic Union Oil Company’s motortanker Brunswick is reported to have left Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 2, for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER.— The Canadian National steamer Canadian Challenger, which left Auckland on August 4 for New York, Boston and Montreal, is reported to have reached Panama on Tuesday. SOLOY SAILS MONDAY.—The Norwegian motor-ship Soloy is scheduled to sail at 3 p.m. on Monday for New Plymouth, Newcastle, and Fremantle. to complete discharge of her cargo of sulphur from Galveston (Texas). THE ROTORUA.—The New Zealand

Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua, now en route from Wellington to Southampton and London via Panama, is reported to have reached the Canal on September 4. MAILS FOR NEW ZEALAND.—The Chief Postmaster advises that the Union Steam Ship Company’s intercolonial steamer Maunganui left Sydney at three o’clock yesterday afternoon for Auckland with 262 bags of Australian and Eastern , mail.. THE ARLINGTON COURT.—Henderson and Macfarlane advises that the steamer Arlington Court, which ,is now at King's Wharf, is expected to be dispatched for Westport at 5 p.m. on Monday. From there she will proceed to the Islands. THE PENYBRYN.—The Norwegian steamer Penybryn, which is at present unloading sugar from Cuba at Chelsea Wharf, is to go into dock on Thursday for cleaning and painting. She will sail toward the end of the week for Australia to load wheat. ZEALANDIC SAILS MONDAY.—According to advice received from L. D. Nathan, Ltd., local agent for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s motor-ves-sel Zealandic, she is expected to sail for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin on Monday afternoon to complete discharging. PORT HUNTER FOR NEW ZEA- ’ ND. —A report received from the Commonwealth and Dominion Line states aat the Port Hunter is scheduled to sail from New York on October 30 for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, via Panama. She is due at Auckland on November 30. PHOSPHATES FROM MOROCCO.—The steamer Antiope, which was dispatched from Casablanca, Morocco, on August 11 with a full cargo of prosphates for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth and Wanganui, is reported to have reached Panama on Tuesday. Hend rson and Macfarlane, Ltd., is the local agent. WAI RUN A DUE TUESDAY.—The Union Company’s steamer Wairuna expects to arrive here on Tuesday evening next with general merchandise from Pacific Coast, ports, and after discharging her local portion proceeds to Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle. NIAGARA 2 P.M. MONDAY—The Royal Mail liner Niagara reached Suva from Vancouver and Honolulu at six o’clock yesterday morning, and resumed her voyage to Auckland at 2.15 p.m. According to cabled advice received by the local office of the Union Company, she expects to arrive at two o’clock on Monday afternoon. The vessel will land passengers, mail, and cargo for New Zeaj land at Prince’s Wharf, and she is to be ! despatched for Sydney at ten o’clock on Tuesday night.

THE TUTANEKAI. —The Government steamer Tutanekai is to leave Wellington on Wednesday on her periodical cruise to Southern lighthouses. MAUNGANUI LEAVES SYDNEY.The Union Company’s intercolonial steamer Maunganui left Sydney for Auckland at 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon. She is due on Tuesday morning, and will berth at Queen’s Wharf. On Wednesday the vessel is to be despatched for Wellington and Sydney. WAIOTAPU FOR VANCOUVER. —The Union Company’s Waiotapu is to clear Newcastle about the end of this week for Vancouver and Suva. The "Waiotapu is to load at Pacific Coast ports toward the end of October and early in November 1 Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. WAI PA HI REPORTS —The Union Company's Island steamer Waipahi reports bv wireless that she will arrive from Rarotonga on Tuesday. The message

also stated that she was being delayed by strong head winds. The vessel has a fruit cargo from Cook Islands, and will unload at Central Wharf.

NARBADA CLEARS PORT.—In continuation of her voyage from Eastern ports, the Union Company’s Indian trader Narbada sailed for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff last nighL From Bluff the vessel will go to Newcastle to load coal for Singapore, and from Singapore she will proceed to Calcutta and other Eastern ports to load again for New Zealand.

TA-NKER SILDRA EXPECTED.—No wireless advice had been received yesterday from the Norwegian motor-tanker Sildra. which is expected from San Francisco at an early date. The vessel is under charter to the Shell Company, and she has a bulk oil cargo for discharge at Auckland and Wellington. Cargo for Auckland will be unloaded at estern Wharf.

RUAPEHU REPORTS. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has received wireless advice from the liner Ruapehu stating that she expects to reach Wellington from London and Southampton at daybreak next Thursday. The vessel has passengers and mail for New Zealand, as well as a general merchandise cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland.

HERTFORD AT PANAMA. —The Federal Line steamer Hertford, which left Liverpool on August 16 with cargo from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and New Plymouth, is reported to have reached Panama on Tuesday. The vessel is due at Auckland on September 24. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent.

THE KINI When the Union Company bought out the Lamb Company some months ago. this company had a new steamer building. This vessel is now nearing completion and will be launched about the middle of this month. The Kini. as she has been named, is a vessel of about 1,500 tons gross and is being built at Aberdeen by John Lewis and Sons, Ltd. She is destined for the intercolonial trade and will run under the Union Company's flag.

NEW TANKER COMING.—The Union Company has received cabled news that the new motor-tanker Atheltemplar cleared San Pedro at 7 a.m. last Sunday with a full cargo of bulk fuel oil for Wellington. She is due to arrive on September 24 and will discharge her 12,000 tons of oil into the company’s tanks at Miramar. The Atheltemplar. like the Athelrfegent, which was at Wellington a few months ago, is a new vessel of about 9,000 tons belonging to the United Molasses Company. On completion of dischai'ge she will probably proceed to Java to load molasses.

WAIPIATA BEING CONVERTED. — The Union -Company's Waipiata. which left port last night for Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff, will proceed front the last-named port to Port Chalmers, where she will lay up for overhaul. While undergoing overhaul, the Waipiata is to be converted into an oilburner. When the vessel was built in 1925 her engineroom was constructed so that she could be converted from coal to oil with a minimum of trouble, and it is not expected that the necessary work in connection with the change-over will take long. PORT OF ONEHUNGA—ARAPAWA is to sail for Wanganui only at 3 p.m. on Monday. HAUTURU was to leave for New Plymouth at noon today. HOKIANGA arrived at Hokianga at 10.15 a.m. today and is due back in port on Monday. KAITOA sailed at 11 o'clock last night for Nelson and West Coast ports. She crossed the bar at 7.45 o’clock this morning. RONAKI, due from Mokianga, at G a.m. tomorrow is scheduled to leave for Radian. Kawhia and Waikato Heads at o p.m. ou Monday.
