KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS
With Mesdames Fursedon and Anderson as hostesses, the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union held the first of a series of social afternoons at Owhango. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. T. Abraham, president of the Taumarttnui branch, addressed the gathering on the aims of the movement. During the proceedings Miss Carlson gave two solos. A delightful evening arranged bv the choir was held in the Taumarunu'i Presbyterian Church. A very line vocal and instrumental programme was given. At Taringamotu a pleasant dance was held in the interest of the Anglican Church. A benefit dance for the assistance of a local distressed family was arranged by Mesdames McElroy and Leydon, of Taumarunui. A pleasing feature of the programme was the solo dancing of Miss Denman, of Manunui. A "hard up” dance at Matiere, in aid of the hall funds, proved very successful, some of the fancy costume’s being splendidly carried out. Only old-time dances were danced. Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Dench won the prizes for the best costumes.
