GOOD SUM RAISED
DAFFODIL DAY EFFORT MANY GIFTS RECEIVED Although the amount collected yesterday at the combined street effort of the Navy League and the Victoria League did not come up to the total for the two separate collections made by these leagues last year, the result is considered to be as good as could be expected under present conditions. A total of £629 was received in all. Flowers, button-holes and badges were sold at 43 stalls, and by an army of collectors throughout the City and suburbs. There was also a sale of produce by the Women's Institute at the Victoria League rooms in Shortland Street. Twenty-three of the stalls were conducted by tbe Boy Scouts’ Association, which will receive a portion of the total amount for its own use. The remainder will be divided among the two leages. Help in the work yesterday was also given by the St. John Ambulance Association, the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, the Girl Guides’ Association, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, Brain’s Commercial College, the Renevolent Society, and the Free Kindergarten’s committee*. Many gifts were received, Including flowers.
