NEW TITIRANGI HOTEL i NEARS COMPLETION SCAFFOLDING REMOVED Although the exterior of the new Titirangi Hotel has been completed and all scaffolding removed, it will be late next month before guests will assemble for the official opening. Meanwhile work is proceeding steadily in last touches to the approaches and *in preparing the interior. The hotel stands at the junction of three roads on the site of the old tea i rooms. To the south there is an nn- | interrupted view toward the Titirangi beach and across the Manukau Harbour and, from the top of the tower, one can see back across the spurs of the Waitakeres to the Waitema'a. The hotel seems almost to stand among the mountain peaks of a lonely island, the sea appearang to stretch round on all sides. From the garage in the basement to the flat sanded roof large euough for a tennis court, the building will be thoroughly modern. The hotel can be approached on two levels from different roads, being built on a steep slope, and the three floors of the northern side become five when viewed from tile south. Advantage has beeu taken of this for the building of a large garage. furnace room and shower baths in the lower level, leaving the ground floor of the main building free for use as tea rooms, post office and promenade. On the first floor is the actual hotel dining room and lounge, with a few bedrooms, the second floor carryj mg the larger number of apartments. FOR 50 GUESTS j Tfie hotel has accommodation for about 50 guests. Every bedroom has been fitted with a wash hand basin with hot and cold water, and four rooms have their own bathrooms. Passages and the larger rooms are steam heated. Although the surroundings have not yet been prepared, the hotel already presents a pleasing aspect. The brown - plaster finish is relieved with terracotta facings and green ornamental iron work. Antique lanterns guard the hotel doorway. There are separate entrances to the tea rooms and to a shop which also serves as post office. , The concreting work on the road from New Lynn will not be started , until February, but the Waitemata County Council has arranged to put J this route in good order for summer traffic.
