WAIKATO HUNTERS

MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON BIG CONTINGENT QUALIFY Special to THE SUS HAMILTON, Thursday. The hunting season in the Waikato will close on Saturday with the point-to-point meeting at Hautapu. The season has been one of the most successful experienced in these parts and has been a notable one for the number qualifying for hunters’ events. Some of the material has been of a distinctly promising nature. The most outstanding have been Penduvits and Pendennis, who have both impressed with* their respective exhibitions over country. The spring programmes should see them at the top of their form. Other jumpers who have been qualifying and performing satisfactorily are Bruntwood, York Abbey, Day Lass, Lupin Abbey, King Farm, Guid Day, Thanks and Arcliieval. Bred Well Westbroke. a full brother to the Winter Cup winner. Self erne, and a half-brother to Best Friend, has been shaping in promising fashion over country and looks likely to more than pay his way in the jumping department. This maiden jumper did not give a good account of himself as a two-year-old. but his connections are sanguine that he will make up leeway in the near future. A nice looking gelding by Lucullus is shaping well in his preparation and has shown that there can be little doubt about his jumping ability. Another pleasing jumper in Beauty Spot, should show up in hunters’ events shortly. This mare, who is by Archiestown. takes her fences cleanlv and has pace.

Glen Maire will no doubt be seen out at the Waikato Hunt meeting in hunting events on Labour Dav, for which he has been qualifying. He is a halfbrother to Black Maire.
