MISS KAY BEATEN
LOSS IN SEMI-FINALS OF WOMEN’S GOLF FINAL PLAYED TODAY Reed. 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, Today. In the semi-finals of the women’s golf championship of Australia yesterday, Miss Susie Tolhurst beat Miss Kay (New Zealand), 3 and 2, and Mrs. Russell beat Mrs. Hay at the nineteenth hole. The final between Miss Tolhurst and Mrs. Russell will be played today. Tremendous Interest was shown in the match between Miss Kay and Miss Tolhurst. Miss Tolhurst was guilty of a few mistakes, and Miss Kay was strangely unreliable with many of her clubs. She began by missing a tiny putt for a half, and although she saved the second with a fine 12-footer, she failed at another little one on the seventh green. On several occasions she completely duffed her shot with the iron when she had-the opening to win, or to half a hole. Her drives, however, were superb, and on several occasions outdistanced her opponent’s by as much as 20 yards.
