SHIPWRECKED MARINERS RETURN BY TOFU A.—Arriving at Auckland yesterday, the Tofua brought back from Pago Pago the officers, crew and some of the passengers of the sunken Tahiti. These pictures show: (1) The Rt Rev. F Bennett, Bishop of Aotoaroa. and his sister Mrs. D. W. Steele of Rotorua, who were both passengers on the Tahiti. They were met at Auckland by Mrs. Steele s son and daughter (2) Captain Patchett vessel. He was the last to leave the ship. (3) The wireless operators of the Tahiti. Right to left: Messrs. F N. Davidson (first), R. A. Patchett second), C. McCaskey (third). After sending out the 5.0.5., they asked for the cricket score. (4) Mr. D A Gibb (left) and D .J. McKenzie, two of the Tahiti’s engineers, have been through their second shipwreck. They were on the Manuka when she went down off the coast of Otago last December. (5) The crew of the Tahiti photographed on the Tofua. (6) Mr. Hector McQuarrie (right), the New Zealand author, and his frie nd ,Mr R. Matthews, of Auckland, were touring the world in a baby car which went down with the ship. (7) Mr. N. S. Siepen, chief officer. (8) Mrs. Westbury, a stewardess on the sunken ship, was also on the Manuka
