GOOD SAMARITAN WANTED

HEART-ATTACK VICTIM PASSED BY INCIDENT AT PENROSE Apparently the parable of the Good Samaritan and the callous Levite is as applicable to certain people today as it was 2,000 years ago. For callous indifference to the sufferings of others an incident at Penrose yesterday afternoon would take some beating. Passengers in an Otahuhu-Auckland bus noticed a man stretched out face downward on the footpath. No one seemed to be giving him any attention. There were tw-o or three school children about and the road carried its usual brisk traffic, with cars passing up and down in quick succession. The man might have been dead, and he certainly looked it, but nobody seemed to be caring. The bus pulled up at its usual stop to let down a resident of the district. This man merely glanced indifferently at the prostrate figure and passed on down the road. NOBODY CARING Still nobody seemed to be caring, and it was left for the driver of the bus and two passengers to make investigations. The unconscious man, who was apparently suffering from a severe heart attack, w’as carried to a nearby shop and even then, although a crowd of idle spectators had collected, difficulty w r as experienced in getting from anyone the name of a nearby doctor. Before leaving, the bus travellers communicated ■with Dr. Robertson, of Green Lane, for even though it had been ascertained by that time that the stricken man was a Penrose resident, there were only a few, including the local postmistress and the owner of the store to which the man was carried, who seemed very much concerned about his fate.
