SIGN RESTRICTIONS

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ALSO PROTESTS “FAR TOO DRASTIC” Contending that the proposal of the City Council to prohibit the use of certain colours in signs was too drastic and an unwarrantable interference with the rights of private property owners, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce has forwarded a protest against the adoption of the by-law concerned. On behalf of th© executive of the chamber, the secretary. Hr. E. P Neale, has forw'arded ‘the following letter to the council: “This proposed by-law has, on the representations of a wide range cf members of the chamber, had careful consideration at the hands of members of the executive of this body, who are unanimous that a sumptuary by-law apparently in effect prohibiting the use of certain colours and combinations of colours in designs on the sides °! buddings is far too drastic a mode of dealing w'ith the problem before your council, and that such a proposal would constitute, if passed, an unwarrantable interference with the rights °r ( Private property ow'ners. We trust that your council will further consider the matter before passing a measure calculated to create widespread resentment.”
