MINISTER’S FAREWELL
REV. A. S. WILSON, OF GRANGE ROAD CHURCH’S HIGH ESTEEM The high esteem m which the Rev A. S. Wilson, minister of the Grange Koad Baptist Church, is held was jshown at a crowded gathering in the ohruch last evening to bid him and Mrs. Wilson, farewell on the occasion of their departure for the South Island. Mr. Wilson has accepted a call to St. Albans Baptist Church, Christchurch, and leaves Auckland af if r eight years at Grange Road. The secretary of the Grange Road Church, Mr. A. J. Lucas, occupied the chair. On the platform were most of the Baptist ministers of Auckland. The principal speakers for the evening were the Rev. Joseph W. Kemp, president of the New Zealand Baptist Union; the Rev. A. J. Grigg, president of the Auckland Baptist Auxiliary, and the Rev. J. Laird, president of the Auckland Baptist Ministers’ Fraternal. Mr. Harry Dawson spoke for the Friday night prayer meetings, Dr. W. H. Pettit for the Bible League, Mr. J. Densem on behalf of the New Zealand Federation of Christian Endeavourers, Mr. H. B. Bristow for the Christian Endeavour Board, and Mr. F. E. Kretschmar for the Young People’s Institute of the church, and the church treasurer, Mr. R. S. Abel, for members of the church congregation. All speakers referred to the loss the church had suffered by the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Mr. Wilson was presented with a cheque on behalf of the church. Various other gifts were made, including one from the Friday night meeting. Mrs. Wilson was given a fireside chair and a handbag from the women of the church. Miss Twentyman played the organ during the evening. The function closed with supper.
