“DISGRACE TO CITY”
DANCES IN CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL’S COMPLAINT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. That the conduct at two recent dances was a disgrace not only to the city, but also to civilisation, was a statement made at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council. It was stated that if the conduct at some dance halls did not improve, the proprietors stood a grave risk of losing their licences. The Mayor, Mr. J. K. Archer, said that in some city supper rooms the behaviour was just as bad as in some of the dance halls. ONE-NIGHT DANCES BLAMED “SIMPLY RAFFERTY RULES” Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. “I think most of the complaints come from the annual or one-night dances. There seems to be more trouble at "flash” dances than at those conducted for tho general public,” said a leading dance hall proprietor, replying to the City Council statements. “At a one-night dance,” he said, "there is no control —it is simply Rafferty rules, and anyone can get drunk and stay unjll the end of the dance."
