NO INCREASE IN RATES
MT. ROSKILL DECISION In moving the adoption, last evening, of the Finance Committee’s recommendation in regard to the rates to be* struck in the Mount Roskill district for the current year, Mr. S. 1. Goodall. chairman of the committee, said that in view of the existing economic conditions the committee had succeeded in so arranging the board’s finances that no increase had been made in the rates. Under ordinary circumstances an additional impost would have been made on account of the increase in the hospital levy, and the interest charges on the newly-raised loan for concreting Three King’s Road, but as a set-off to these charges a reduction of 5-16th of a penny had been made in the general rate. This left the gross rates practically the same as last year, a decision, he said, which should be appreciated by the ratepayers. WATER CHARGES In regard to the water charges, Mr. Goodall explained that owing to increased price the board was nov.paying the Auckland City Council and the Mount Eden Borough Council for water, it had been found necessary to increase the water rate by 2s 6d on the minimum charged last year. Provision had been made, he said, for the supply of water to schools to be charged for at less than cost price. On the motion of the chairman. Mr. E. F. Jones, it was decided that the rates as «übmitted be formally struck at ine board’s next meeting, and the clerk was instructed to advertise this decision accordingly.
