The chairman of the committee reported that the contractors’ price for installing the pump was £4O, and it was decided that the work be carried out by the board’s employees. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mr. A. Breed, traffic inspector, in the loss of his wife, the members standing in silence. The water engineer suggested that in view of the possibility of the Manukau County Council drawing water from the board’s supply, the board should be careful of the quantity it contracts to deliver to the council. When the scheme was originally installed it was not intended to deliver water out of the board area, but it was likely that the county would require as much water as the town district is using at the present timeThe town clerk reported that in consequence of the rebate of 5 per cent, for prompt payment of rates, over 50 per cent, of the rates struck for the present year were paid during the month of August. The debit balance at the beginning of the month was . during which accounts totalling £749 were paid. The total receipts banked during August were £4,753. The credit balance on September 1 was £1,736.
