SPORTS AT ONEHUNGA
MEETING OF FEDERATION CARNIVAL TO BE HELD Representatives of the Auckland Hockey Association, Auckland Rugbv Union, Auckland Football Association and Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association attended a. meeting of the Onehunga Sports Federation last evening. Ihe president, Mr. J. E. Green occupied the chair. The secretary, Mr. W. Morton, reported that the Onehunga Borough Council had given the federation permission to make a gate charge to the recreation reserve on Saturdav, September 13. Arrangements were accordingly made for holding a sports carnival there on that date. A letter was received from the Auckland Rugby Union agreeing to the federation s request for a first grade football match to be played on the reserve and Messrs. A. Playle and F. Inslev’ representing the hockey and Soccer associations, reported that representative matches in those codes would be arranged on the same date, while Mr. W. Morton, president of the Athletic Association, announced that running and field events would also be held. It was decided to devote one half of the net proceeds to the grounds improvement fund and hand the balance to the Onehunga Borough Council to provide work for the relief of unemployed ex-servicemen. An account for £47, representing the federation’s half, of the cost of improvement work done by the Onehunga Borough Council was passed for payment and a vote of appreciation was accorded the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton and the chairman of the reserves committee, Cr. A. C. Tonkin, for their active co-operation and assistance in putting the playing surface of the reserve in good order.
