EXTRA TRAFFIC ROUTES
MOUNT EDEN’S ZONING SUBDIVISIONS BY ENGINEER Tli© commercial and residential areas in the town-planning zones of the Mount Eden Borough have been revised by the works committee of the council, and the committee’s recommendations were carried at last evening’s meeting of the council. The original resolution concerning the zoning of the district, which has been in effect since October, 1928, was rescinded, and the following areas havo now been allotted in Mount Eden Road:—East side: Commercial and residential, from Boston Road to Percy ►-Street; residential, from Percy Street, to Oaklands Road: commercial and residential, from Oaklands Road to Landscape Road. West side: <’ummercial and residential, from Shaddock Street to Point Street; residential, from Point Street to Valley Road; commercial and residential, from Valley Road to Landscape Road. SU BDI VISION AL SCHEMES The map of the borough now' inthese are necessary. These recommendations were submitted by the borough engineer. Provision is made for the acquisition of private property where required, for the purpose of securing the connection of roads and the shortening of main routes for transport purposes. “There is no immediate necessity for the execution of the improvements alluded to,” said Mr. J. Rogers, “but the vacant sections should be secured when it is practicable, and held in reserve for roadway extensions. The proposed widening and extension of Eden vale Road should be effected within the next five years. The resumption of land and the execution of the proposed work must become a general charge over the whole borough.” AREAS REFERRED TO Tho subdivisional areas referred to are as follow:—The continuation of Highcliffe Road between Halesowen Avenue and Hardley Road, in Mount Roskill, which will open a direct route from Balmoral Road to Mount Albert Road; the continuation of Carmen Avenue through Volcanic Street to Pin© Street, which will open a direct route from Sandringham to Balmoral; the continuation of Eldon Road through St. Albans Avenue to Elizabeth Street; the connection of Mount Pleasant Road to Mewburn Avenue; the extension of Douglas Road to Richmond Street; St. Albans Avenue to be extended to Cambourne Road; Cromwell Street to be extended to Burnley Terrace; Stokes Road improvement at connection with Epsom Avenue; the widening of Edenvale Road to 45ft and through connection to Sherwood Road; the building line along Edwin Street, John Street and Stewart Street to be fixed at 2 2ft 6in from the centre line, or 45ft wide.
