INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM
VISIT TO N.Z. DECLINED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. At the meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association this evening, it was announced that the secretary had received a letter from Field-Marshal Birdwood, Commander-in-Chief of the Army in India, stating that the invitation for an Indian Army team to tour New Zealand next year or in 1932 could not be accepted, as not only was the time inopportune, but lack of funds would make the tour impossible. An invitation was received to send a New Zealand team to Australia in 1931. It was decided to accept the invitation. The following dates were arranged for Norden Cup matches: —Wairarapa v. Manawatu, September 10; winner v. Tamatea (Hawke’s Bay), September 17.
