Motion picture producers and distributors with their American offices at New York commented today upon the reported cessation of sales of American films to New Zealand. They admitted that consternation was felt by American companies, but said they “would not pull out of New Zealand’’ because of the new tax. The hope was expressed that the New Zealand Government would reconsider the, heavy impost on gross film rentals.
