OVERSEAS LEAGUE
NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED A most enjoyable reception to welcome some of the new women members of the club was given on Saturday afternoon in the club rooms of the Overseas League. Large bowls of spring flowers and clusters of pussy-willow made the rooms look most attractive. The hostesses were Mrs. R. G. Coats and Miss A. Quayle. Items were given during the afternoon by Mrs. Partridge, Miss llarison and Mrs. Tui Haverfield. Miss Quayle. in addressing those present, outlined the work and ideals of the league, pointing out that it is a patriotic, non-party society of British subjects residing in all parts of the world, its underlying motive being to promote the unity of British people the world over. Instancing the progress of the league, Miss Quayle stated that prospective members were considered daily, the membership to date approximating 50,000, making it the largest organisation of its kind in the Empire. Mrs. R. G. Coats also addressed the gathering, speaking of the local activities of the league. It was decided to hold an afternoon bridge party on September IG. Among the guests were; Mrs. Gage Brown, Mrs. J. F. T. Mitchell, Mrs. Reece, Mrs. Haw. Mrs. Tweedie, Mrs. O. V. Angwin, Mrs. Butterworth, Mrs. J. M. Melville. Hr. Gladys Montgomery, Mrs. G. Walker, Mrs. Bra,d«treet, Mrs. .r. c. M. Allen. Mrs. Stubbs, Mrs. Harold King, Mrs. M. G. Stewart, Mrs. Lloyd Francis, Mrs. Kissling, Miss Mary Worthington. Miss Elsie Jennings, Miss M. King, Miss Sutton, Miss Walker, Miss Geddes, Miss Stubington, Miss Bradstreet, Miss D. Smith, Miss K. Campbell. Miss Murray, Miss G. Murray, Miss Elsie Grey, Miss Davis, Miss Montgomery, Miss N. Montgomery, Miss Flemming, Miss Hadfield, M iss I vie Jennings.
