ARAPUNI INVESTIGATIONS EXAMINATION OF GROUND From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Sunday. The Swedish expert, Professor P. J. Hornell, who has been engaged by the Government to investigate the position at Arapuni, arrived there on Thursday with his assistant, Mr. P. W. Werner. Since his arrival the professor has been making a thorough examination of the works and surrounding country. Associated with him are Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-cliief to the Public Works Department; Mr. T. F. M. Kissell, chief electrical engineer; Dr. J. Henderson, Government geologist, and Mr. T, Ttabone, officer in charge of the Public Works Department at Arapuni. Professor Hornell commenced his examination at a point to the southwest. of the main dam. He chipped olf pieces of lock and earth from the banks of the river and thoroughly examined the samples. Mr. Werner took notes of the professor's observations. Progress was made down the headrace leading to the spillway, weir and at every few yards a pause was made and the water bed examined. When the fissure running down the headrace was reached a hole was dug. The composition of the strata uncovered was closely examined, and instructions were left with some labourers to dig still deeper at this point so that, a further examination might be made in the afternoon.
