TITIRANGI HIGHWAY
NEW CONCRETE ROAD EXPENDITURE AUTHORISED It is hoped to begin work on concreting the main Titirangi Road next February. The Main Highways Board has authorised payment of its portion of the cost, and the Waitemata County Council will call tenders for the work shortly. The actual concreting should be completed within three months of the date work begins, according to the county engineer, Mr. A. Murray. The highway will then be available for use about May. Earthworks and the building of a concrete retaining wall at the top of the hill have already been completed and a coating of metal is being laid to carry the summer traffic. The new road will extend from the New Lynn tow r n boundary to Hotel Titirangi, about two miles distant. It will cost £26,000, of which threequarters will be paid by the Main Highways Board and the remaining quarter by the Waitemata County. A special loan to cover the county’s portion has already been authorised.
