AUSTRALIA SEEKS VISIT BY U.S. TEAM The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia is using every endeavour to secure a visit this season from a United States team, says the “Australasian” of August 23. At a meeting of the executive committee held last week it was resolved, following suggestions received from J. Willard, the manager of the Davis Cup team, and E. C. Miller, the Australian delegate in Lon- \ don, to invite a team from America for j January, February and March of next ■ year. This projected visit from the United States is now long overdue, j and there is a great possibility of it j coming at last. Allison, Van Ryn, Lott, and other young and enthusiastic players have expressed to the Australians in Europe this season a keen desire to visit Australia. Prior to this year the American officials have always been willing to send players to Australia. but they have always had great difficulty in procuring a team. After the disappointing form shewn almost throughout the whole of the tour this year by the Australian team in Europe, it is the general opinion that far more good would accrue to the game hero if the L.T.A.A. was to concentrate on securing visits from leading players of other countries, even iP* it means not challenging for the Davis Cup for the next two or three years. Spending the money devoted to that purpose in bringing teams from abroad would provide followers of the game ln Australia with some good tennis. Leading juniors from whom we must select our Davis Cup players of the future would then have the opportunity of meeting these visiting players on the courts and picking up points from watching them against other opponents.
