Where Prime Fancies Ran On Saturday
Only One Dividend Of the seven first public selections at Epsom on Saturday, the only one to give backers a return was Surprise Journey, the exAustralian trotter, which was making his first race appearance in this country. The only other favourite during the day to get into a place was Country King, another of W. J. Tomkinson’s team, but he missed giving backers any return on their outlay. In some instances the most favoured candidate was unlucky. In the Auckland Handicap. Ena wall refused to strike a. gait, and did not get going until the back-marker ranged up to her. Trustworthy was racing in a. handy position in the Mount Roskill Handicap when a knee boot . came loose, causing her to break up badly. When the field was in line for the Ellerslie Handicap. .T. T. Paul, driver of a warm favourite. Little Guy, had occasion to get out of the sulky, and before becoming seated again the signal was given. This lost Little Guv a lot of ground. The following table shows the amount each favourite carried and where it finished in the race:
Cabal lert £592 4th Xel son’s Cli uni ’ £649 8th Enawah £ 1.543 6th Trustwoi •thy . . £ 1.374 7th Surprise .Tournev £1.013 1st Tattle Gi uy £1.270 4 th Country King: £1,318 3rd
