PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT CLEVEDON HARES HIDE WITH SHEEP There was .a large field at f lie meet of the Pakuranga hunt, held at the Clevedon Public Hall on Saturday. On their arrival, the visitors were entertained at a hunt breakfast in the hall. The first draw was made on Mr. W. Gore’s farm, and a hare was located at once, but unfortunately it ran among some ewes and lambs on Mr. Dug Rowden’s property and the hounds had to be whipped off. A move was then made to Mr. Munro’s, but without success, and the pack worked through Mr. Paton’s on to another part of Mr. Munro’s, where three or four hares were raised in a bunch, one leading the field for a good spin toward Ardmore. It also ran among some sheep, and the pack had to be whipped off. It was only a question of minutes before the hounds had another quarry on the move. It took the field for a long run, parallel with the Clevedon Road, till near the Ardmore Hall, where it was killed at the creek. The hounds were then thrown off on Mr. Dow’s farm, where a hare was located, but after a short run it had to be abandoned on account of it running among the sheep. The final draw of the day was made on Mr. J. G. Sutherland’s but without success. Before returning home, the followers were again entertained at afternoon tea. On behalf of the members, Mr. H. Bullock Webster, master of the hunt, thanked the women residents for their hospitality, .and also the owners of property over whose land the club is allowed to hunt.
