LONDON, Friday. ‘ The Earl of Derby, one of Britain’sl foremost owners and breeders of racehorses, according to the “Daily Telegraph,” is about to make a. considerable reduction. in his racing lesmblishment. He has decided to ‘dispense with the services oi.‘ his itrainer, Mr. F. Butters, and to sell imost of his yearlings and a. number of the mares and horses in his Stan}ley House stables. This step is being taken by Lord il’)erby owing 10 the growing pressure of taxation. In a recent public speech he remarked: “I find that the time is coming, if it. has not already come, when I muy have to consider leaving the home where my ancestors lived for so many years." 11; is computed that Lord Derby’s horses have won £350,000 in the past 10 years. ' It is understood Lord Derby will retain his famous sires, which include Fairway, Pharos, Phalaris. Bosworth and Semsnvino. The lust—named won the Derby for him several years ago. He will also not part with his younger brood mares. The cream of the stable will be kept, but the rest will come under theJiammer at Newmarket in October or December.
