A letter was read from Lord and Lady Bledlsloe. agreeing to act as putmn and patroness t 0 the association.

The president. Mrs. Ferner, sent a message outlining the birth and progress of the association, and held up a high standard of ideals for the future. She stressed the necessity for character building in children who had few advantages. Se said the association M r as not of mushroom groM*th, and theer was an interesting history behind it. In the first stages, Information and statistics were gathered and the different councils approached to ask them to provide for the recreation of the children. Twelve years ago when the association was formed, it M-as decided to engage in the conducting and organisation of children’s playgrounds. That was done in the summer months, generally in the poorer districts. The M'ork received the approbation of otficials and headmasters, who found the children much improved by being caved for and not left to run wild. By this means the association had gained a reputation for solid work and sound administration among thinking people. The generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Arnoldson was acknoudedged in presenting the association with their house at Ostend, AVaiheke, to be used as a health camp, and a report on the great success of the camp was made.
