PICKED WRONG HOUSE
BURGLAR’S VAIN SEARCH FOR MONEY LARGE SUM NEXT DOOR Climbing through the window of a house occupied by Mr. J. McDonald at 11 Peach Parade, Remuera, last night, a thief thoroughly ransacked every room in search of money. Mr. McDonald and his family were out for the evening and, as a man was seen loitering near by, it is considered that he made his way into the house as soon as Mr. McDonald's motor-car was out of sight. The front windows aro about five feet from the ground, so the thief carried a stool round from the back yard and climbed to the sill. A window was found ajar and he pushed it open. Every drawer in the house was ransacked and Mr. McDonald’s papers were scattered wide. Bedding was dragged from the beds in the search for money. Mr. McDonald, who is a timber merchant, has frequently had large sums of money in the house, but last night the thief drew a complete blank. He missed the child’s moneybox. The marauder was unfortunate in his choice of houses. Next door to Mr. McDonald's there was quite a large amount of money, including a sum of £4O left in a dressing-table drawer by a member of the family.
