ESSENTIALS IN STOCK
POINTS TO LOOK FOR The South African “Farmers’ Advocate” gives some advice to young breeders which might quite well apply to beginners in this country. It states that the majority of young breeders or students, when selecting sheep, are inclined to take too much notice of the unessential points of a sheep in comparison to the*essentials. By so doing they very often pass over a good animal and fix their choice on one, perhaps, not so useful. The essential points are: —First, constitution; second, covering; third, conformation. Constitution; The wellshaped mouth and teeth and general robustness. Covering: The quality, character, density, length of staple, evenness, free from kemp. Conformation; The size in relation to breed and country bred on, spring of Die ribs, sound feet, broad shoulders and chest, deep body and flank.
