HARRIER CLUBS CONFER
CHRISTCHURCH MEETING Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. With official recognition given for the irst time by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association the conference of delegates of harrier ciubs was held this evening on the eve of the New Zealand crosscountry championships.
Among the remits passed was one to the effect that the 1931 New Zealand cross-country championship should be conducted by the Canterbury Centre. This was opposed by an Auckland remit, which asked for the event to be held at Auckland. The latter remit* however, was lost by five votes to four. In the discussion, the position of Auckland and Otago was mentioned, as both centres are faced with the necessity of sending their teams a long distance to compete. The conference was of opinion that the event should take place in each Island alternately.
A recommendation to the council that a New Zealand team should be sent to Australia was carried. Mr. G. L. Austin (Canterbury) suggested that if £ 300 were required for such a project, the three main centres, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago, should be called upon for £75 each, and the remaining centres, Wanganui and Auckland, for £37 10s. Each council would contribute if it found itself in a position to do so, and a refund to the centres might thus be possible. The suggestion was adopted.
A resolution of congratulation to Savidan and Lay, on their success at the Empire Games, was carried.
