NO RELIEF SUBSIDY
AIRPORT SCHEME IN GISBORNE 75 MEN MAY LOSE JOBS Press Association GISBORNE. Today Concern has been caused by tbe announcement that the unemployment subsidy -will not be available on tae airport scheme, which was begttß some weeks ago in anticipation of to* granting of the subsidy. The position now is that 75 men with an aggregate of 350 dependents will have to be dismissed unless the Minister consent* to reconsider the position. Until the beginning of the airpowork the unemployment situation acute, and if a suspension is forc v_ now the acuteness will be re-esta lished. The Mayor is endeavour n? to secure the Minister’s assent to t - treatment of the work as a relief a strong point in the representatio being that every penny expended for wages.
