TIRI LIGHT RESTORED. —The light at Tiritiri lighthouse was restored at about five o'clock yesterday afternoon. THE ULIMAROA.—The steamer Ulimara Is to leave Sydney this afternoon for Wellington with passengers, mails, and cargo. She is due at Wellington on Tuesday morning. OMANA ARRIVES TONIGHT.—An arrival from Newcastle this evening will be the Union Company’s steamer Omana. with coal. After discharge here she will return to Newcastle. RANGITATA FROM HOME.—The New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-linjer Rangitata is scheduled to leave Southampton today with passengers, mail and cargo for Xew Zealand. The vessel is due at ‘Wellington on October 1. THE WAlPAHl.—According to advice received from the Union Company, the Island fruit steamer Waipahi arrived at Raratonga at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, and sailed at 4 p.m. the same day for’ the out-islands. THE ARMADALE.—Now at .Rrince’s Wharf putting out the local portion of her cargo from Xew York, the steamer Armadale is to sail p.m. on Monday for Wellington to continue unloading. Her local agent is the New Zealand Shipping Company. lONIC SAILS TOMORROW.—B. T>. Nathan, Btd., advises that the White Star liner lonic, at present at Prince’s Wharf discharging the local part of her general cargo from London, is to be dispatched tomorrow- morning for Wellington to complete unloading. ARLINGTON COURT REPORTS.— Radio advice from the steamer Arlington Court, on her way from Ocean Island with a full cargo of phosphates, states that she is expected to arrive here on Sunday morning. She tvill berth at King’s Wharf. NEW YORK CARGO.—The C. and D ; Bine advises that the Port Brisbane is now' expected to clear New York on September 3 with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedin. GOLDEN CROSS SAILS TUESDAY.— The O. and O. Navigation Company's steamer Golden Cross, at present discharging at Central Wharf, is expected to sail for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin on Tuesday. Her local agent is Henderson and Maefarlane. AWAHOU DISPATCHED.—The Richardson Line motor-ship Awahou sailed last evening and arrived at Whangnrei this morning, whore she will complete loading for Sydney. The vessel will proceed from Sydney to Newcastle to load for Xew Zealand. WAKATERE REMOVED.—To continue dismantling, the old paddle-steamer Wakatere was removed from Julian's Wall to the new eastern breastwork this morning, where she. will be moored until her hull is purchased from the present owner, Mr. Appleton. The towing was done by the Auckland Launch and Towboat Company. THE LADY LEWlS.—Henderson and Maefarlane, Ltd., advises that the steamer Lady Lewis left Wanganui yesterday morning' for Westport, having completed discharger of her cargo of phosphates from Nauru Island. At Westport the vessel will bunker before going to Fiji, where she will load for' the United Kingdom. - PENYBRYN DUE TONIGHT.—A further radio message received by Speckling, Ltd., from the Norwegian steamer Penvbryn, en route from Cuba to Auckland, via Suva, states that she expects to arrive in tire stream here at about 9.30 o’clock tonight. The vessel will berth tomorrow morning at Chelsea Wharf to put out her cargo of raw sugar. PORT GISBORNE COMING.—The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company advises that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line vessel Port Gisborne, now at Gisborne continuing her loading for London, is to leave there at 3 p.m. today for Auckland to complete her cargo. The master states that ho will arrive here early on Sunday morning, and she is to sail finally from here for London, via the Panama Canal, on September 6. OTAIO LAUNCHED.—A Press Association message from London states that Vickers, Armstrong, Ltd., has launched at Barrow-in-Furness the Otaio, the first of three 3 2,000-ton motor-ships building for the New Zealand Shipping' Company. The Otaio will be fitted with Doxford opposed piston Diesel engines similar to those in most of the C. and D. Line motor-ships. The other two ships, which are being built on the Clyde by Alexander Stephens and Sons, Lid., will be launched at the beginning of next year. They are to be fitted with the Sulzer type of Diesel engine, similar to those in the Rang!tiki and her sister ships. It is understood that the three vessels will have a speed of 16 to 165 knots, and that the accommodation for the officers, enginleers, and other members of the crews will mark a distinct advance on that in present ships in the New Zealand trade.
THE TOFU A. —The Union Company’s Island steamer Tofua left Apia at four o’clock on Wednesday aftemon for Suva and Auckland. The vessel is scheduled to reach Auckland on Wednesday morning. THE WAIKOUAITI. The steamer Waikouaiti. owned by the Union Company, left Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. yesterday for Wellington and Auckland. She is scheduled to leave Wellington today for Auckland, and should arrive here on Sunday. She will later proceed to Sydney. x TARANAKI AT SUVA. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion motor-ship Taranaki is reported to have reached Suva at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, en route from London to ; Lyttelton. The vessel is due at Lyttelton ! about September 5, and she will also ! discharge at Dunedin. The Taranaki will afterward load at Port Chalmers, Bluff, Wellington, Napier, Waikokopu, Gisborne and Auckland. She is scheduled to reach Auckland on October 2, and she is to sail for London, via Panama, on October 7. SOMERSET FROM LIVERPOOL.—An arrival in the stream at 5 o’clock this morning was th§ Federal Steam Navigation Company's cargo steamer Somerset, from Liverpool. The vessel has a c argo of general merchandise from West Coast United Kingdom ports, the local consignment of which she is unloading at Queen’s Wharf to the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. In order, the Somerset loaded at Swansea, Newport, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, clearing the last port on July 19. En route to New Zealand she called at Curacao for oil bunkers on August 2, *nd c leared the Panama Canal on August 5. Throughout her voyage the Somerset enjoyed fair to moderate weather until last night, when she ran into a fresh gale and rough seas. Besides cargo the vessel brought a quantity of second-class mail. She is to be dispatched on Wednesday next for Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin and Bluff to complete chargein command of the Somerset is Captain C. R. Wood; second, Mr. P. D. Cameron; wireless operator, Mr. A. Howard; chief j steward, Mr. T. Leaver. ARMADALE FROM NEW YORK.—An arrival early yesterday afternoon was the A. and A. Line's chartered steamer Armadale from New York. The vessel berthed at Prince’s Wharf to put out the local portion of her cargo of general Eastern American merchandise to the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is expected to sail on Tuesday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Sydney to complete discharge. The Armadale cleared New York on July 1G and the Panama Canal on July 27. She enjoyed fine weather through* out her voyege. The vessel received a radio call from Rarotonga on August 15 to assist the disabled liner Tahiti and immediately altered her course and steamed at full speed toward the Tahiti. After steaming for between six and seven hours she received a wireless message from the Tahiti expressing gratitude, but informing her that other vessels were nearer. She thereupon put about and resumed her voyage to Suva, where, she called to discharge a quantity of her cargo and then sailed for Auckland. The Armadale encountered strong variable winds when approacihng the New Zealand coast. Captain A. P. Bach is in command of the Armadale, and he has with him the following officers: —Chief officer.
