The, executive, at I'mi nle , etlnsr held last week passed the folluHing resolution to cover both re nuts: ’That the engineers from the lorn principal cities and Masterton and iima.ru confer and report to the Municipal Association on these subjects each municipality to pay the costs of its engineer attending such conference; the convening of such conference to w m ft , in the hands of the Mayor of Wellington.’ the Ctty Lo QDtaining permission to attend the proposed conference. The City Engineer, Wellington, will communicate with you as to the date of holding the proposed conterenee, and as to other particukirs. Following are the remits■ “ ‘in view of the enormous amount oi money sent out of the country for bituminous road-making material, this council recommends that the Municipal Association give very serious consideration to the establishment of municipal cement works in order to produce cheap cement for permanent reading, etc.’ “ 'That it be a recommendation to the Executive Committee to consider the question of devising and introducing a system whereby local bodies could co-operate and purchase their requirements to the best advantage.’ ” ENGINEER PROPOSED The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican moved that the City Engineer attend the conference, and submit a report to the council, without power to vote. Cr. Bloodworth: This is one of the best opportunities for municipal trading. I think it will be foolish for the engineer to attend without knowing the opinion of the body that sends him The Deputy-Mayor said he was willing to move that the question be referred to the Works Committee for report. This motion was carried.
