OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL
On receipt of a letter from the Northcote Borough Council, regarding the necessity of an amendment to the Rating Act, which allows claims for re bate.s of rates on properties unoccupied for six months, the Otahuliu Borough Council decided last evening to ask the member for the district to support any amending legislation which might come-betore the House. A letter was received from a woman ratepayer who had fallen over some kerbstones and ruined a pair of stockings, in addition to esutting and bruising herself. To confirm her statement, she displayed the damaged hose to the Mayor, who supported the petitioner’s claim. The claimant said the purchase price was 13s lid, hut her claim was reduced to 12s Gd. When the question was referred to the town clerk, he said the council was protected by insurance against such claims, anJ he was instructed to take action to ha.\ 7 e the applicant’s claim settled. It was decided, as the result of a petition of residents of Portage Road, to spend the sum of £ls on repairing the road. The building’ inspector reported that permits for buildings valued at £279 had been issued for three weeks ending August 26. A notice of motion by Mr. Trenwith. that taxi-cars be allowed to stand on the Great South Road, between th** Post Office and Avenue a Road, on Saturday afternoon and Sundays, was defeated. _ Leave of absence was granted Cr. Seton till November 1.
