However, Redtation, who had been in ittendanee throughout, forced his way t the front crossing the top to lead into the straight. Jiu Jazz was then coming up fast and was at the leader's heels at the final fence. in the run the judge Jiu Jazz finished the better m win by a length, with Tall-Timber hilt a dozen lengths back. Juggle Stopped badly and Magic Rand was up with her at the post. Hack Hurdles Mirabilary. who was unlucky on the first day, made amends by winning tlio Oridfei Hack Hurdles. Mountain Echo soon*’ took command to lead Masher, Our Jack and Shining Armour through the straight. Mountain .Echo gave way to Masher and Mirabilary passing the five-furlong post, with Our Jack, Dobbin and Call Again next in order. Mirabllarv took charge coming Into ihe straight and although Our Jack and Call Again challenged the grey mare held her position to bring an early return to her new owner liy winning from Masher by two and ahalf lengths. Dick Whittington weakened to fill fourth place, with Hystride and Gay Lass next, the favourite having disappointed. .Mahora looks a fair sort. Hunt Cup Postman (£217) was favourite for the Hunt Club Steeplechase, in which thero were only seven runners, Akbar f £ 167) and Risk (£129) being next in favour. Backers' judgment proved to be well based, for the trio finished as backed. Akbar, Postman and Colyton headed a well bunched field as they raced through the straight, but Colvton came to grief at the single brush, leaving Akbar in charge. Airforce made a forward move to attend Akbar as they completed the initial round, with King’s Counsel and Kovno being a head of Postman. The favourite, however, was going well within himself throughout and he lodged his lain; half a mile from home, where EUsft also made a hid to improve his position. The latter's jumping was not so clean and Akbar and Postman were well clear of Kovno and King’s Counsel turning for home. 'ln the run to the post the favourite drew away to win comfortably by three lengths from Akbar. with Risk half a length back. King’s Counsel was fourth, and Kovno next. Rakaiatai Handicap
Due largely to Wiggins's good finishing effort, Maui won the Raraiatni Handicap, in which he and Shrewd lominated the betting. Kilmezzo lumped away smartly, but within the irst furlong. Shrewd, who had been jomewhat slow to find his feet, joined :he leader with Royal Damon, Full Mark, Huikai and Maui racing <in pairs. There was little change crossing the top, save that Balloon had run forward and was attending the two •eaders at the top of the straight. Inside the distance Maui came through n the centre of the course to beat Shrewd home by three-quarters of a ength, with heads separating the latter rom Full Mark, Balloon and Black Mint, Kakahukura Hack Taranto proved much too good for he opposition in the Kakahukura Hack Handicap.
