BIG HOUSE BURNED

FIRE AT CAMBRIDGE UNOCCUPIED BUILDING From Our Own Correspondent CAMBRIDGE, Today. Early this morning Victoria House, a 12-roomed wooden dwelling owned by Mrs. Violet Goodwin, of Claudeiands, and unoccupied at present, was totally destroyed by fire. When the • outbreak was discovered the building was well alight and the brigade had to concentrate on saving a nearby residence. There was a high wind blowing at the time, hut the brigade’s efforts were successful, though Victoria House was burned to the ground. Tho. building, which was one of the. oldest in Cambridge, was recently occupied by Mr. R. H. White as a boardinghouse. lie left the place only last Saturday. The insurance was £652, in the Commercial Office. OUTBREAK AT OHAKUNE GOOD WORK BY BRIGADE from Our Owit Correspondent RAETIHI, Today. A fire broke out in a residence owned by Mr. F. Standish and occupied ;by Mr. G. Xewlings. in Clyde Street, Ohakune. on Thursday. The fire was first discovered hv Miss A. Guilder, who worked for Airs. Newlings. It had a big hold on the front part of the building and sh€> immediately sent for the fire brigade while she endeavoured to save clothing, bedding, etc. In the face of a heavy gale, the brigade had the flames under control in an hour, confining the damage mostly to the three front rooms.
