ARMADALE RECEIVES RADIO FROM TAHITI RUSH TO ASSISTANCE Distress signals from the wireless station, Raratonga, intimating the plight of the ’ ill-farted Tahiti which foundered in midPacific were received by the steamer Armadale, an arrival at Auckland today. The first message regarding the vessel's danger was received when the Armadale was about 1,100 miles off Suva and approximately 860 miles from the Tahiti. According to the wireless operator the Armadale received the news before the Penybryn and immediately turned about and rushed to the assistance of the endangered ship. Travelling at top speed she pursued her course toward the Tahiti for some six or seven hour. The Armadale had covered between sixty and seventy miles when she received her first and lasi message from the sinking liner:—“Thanks, old man; other vessels nearer than you are. As it would have been futile to continue, the Armadale turned about and steamed toward Suva.
