OFFICIAL KILLED BY BOMB Outbreak at Calcutta GOVERNMENT URGED TO USE FORCE BOMB-THROWING has become a popular method of terrorism in India’s troubled area, and the attempt to assassinate the Commissioner of Police a few days ago has been followed by similar outrages upon police outposts in Calcutta, where a Government servant was fatally injured yesterday. The European Association Conference at Calcutta passed resolutions urging the abandonment of conciliation and concessions in settling the Indian insurrection and advocating a policy of force.

Following upon the attempt to assassinate Sir Charles Tegart, Commissioner of Police, another outrage occurred in Calcutta last evening. A bomb was thrown at the Jorabagan police station in the centre of the city. It exploded in the yard of the station and injured three persons, including a beggar woman. It is believed that the bomb was thrown from a passing motor-car.

A further outrage was perpetrated at Calcutta this morniug. A bomb was thrown at a police outpost in Eden Gardens, near Government House. A constable, two coolies and a Government servant were all seriously wounded.

The bomb-thrower disappeared in the gardens. The Government servant subsequently died from terrible injuries. The police have secured evidence that the cripies were committed by a gang of Bengali terrorists who are in

POLICY OF FORCE URGED CONFERENCE AT CALCUTTA Reed. 11.20 a.m. DELHI, Wednesday. “The Congress revolutionary movement cannot be stemmed by concessions or conference,” declared the European Association Conference at Calcutta today, when resolutions were passed calling on the Government to take drastic measures to combat the campaign, and condemning further delay in the hope of creating a favourable atmosphere for a conference.
