CRICKET BATTLE ENDS IN SENSATIONAL DRAW
ALL OUT-SCORES EVEN MATCH WITH GLOUCESTER United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Tues. The cricket match between the Australians and Gloucester finished sensationally in a draw today, the scores being even.
\Vhen the game was resumed in the presence of 8,000 spectators, the county was 62 ahead, with seven wickets in hand. The side then collapsed, and 2111 were out before lunch for it total Of 2023, leaving the Australians 118 to win. ‘ Hurnihrook was again the most successful'bowler, and his figures [or the match are nine for (29. The Australians started their sec—ond innings well, McCabc and Jacksun carrying the total to 5!) before the former was bowled. Four wickets then tell with the addi—tion pf: 14 runs. Ponsford and Kimmx made the first ducks ot‘ the tULn', and the crowd roared with excitement when Parker scattered Bradman’s stumps. . DEFEAT IN SIGHT ‘ Only 37 runs were now needed, with ‘ four wickets intact. Australia seemed icertain to lose when A'Beckett was \caught in the slips. The score was now seven for 86. Hurwood survived two appeals for 10;: before, and with the total at DU Lyon dropped Grim-
mett. Hurwood was again given not out to further leg-before appeals. The pair added a valuable 20 and then Hurwood went out leg-before. Eight wickets • were now down for 108, but three runs were still wanted when Grimmett was caught after a plucky stay of an hour. Hornibrook survived a stumping
appeal and brought the sides level. Amid tremendous excitement Goddard appealed for leg-before against tlie same batsman, and he was given out. Thus ended the most dramatic match of the tour. It was a pitiful display on the Australians’ part and further demonstrated the foolishness of changing the batting order.
