CLAIM FOR £2,200
MAN ALLEGES INJURIES IN ACCIDENT OWNER AND DRIVER SUED From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. Damages totalling £2,201 5s lor injuries received and wages lost through alleged negligence were claimed by William Styles, a timber worker ot' Rotorua, against Set’ton H. Young, a service-car proprietor of Hamilton, and Harold Bates, a car driver of Rotorua, in the Supreme Court today. Mr. Justice Smith presided. Mr. J.' F. Strang appeared for plaintiff and Mr. M. H. Hampson. of Auckland, for defendants. The statement of claim set out that plaintiff was riding a motor-cycle on the Mamaku-Rotorua main highway on January 25, 1929, when Bates, at an allegedly excessive speed and negligently did drive his car and collide with him, the plaintiff, seriously injuring him and damaging his machine. At the time of the collision plaintiff was employed as a benchman, but in consequence of the collision he was unable to work till May 31, 1930, and thereby lost wages amounting to £420. Since March 31, 1930, plaintiff had only been able to work as a casual. Special damages totalling £7Ol 5s were claimed and £1,500 general damages. The defence was a general denial. (Proceeding.)
