PROTEST FROM LABOURERS’ UNION “UNJUST AND UNFAIR' Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. A resolution was carried unanimously by the General Labourers’ Union last evening protesting against the decision in the Unemployment Bill, to levy a fiat tax of 80s annually on section of the population to relieve unemployment. “We consider this proposal.” ? aia the resolution, “is unjust and unfair to the minimum wage worker whose annual earnings are £l3O, and that u is obviously unjust to ask him to pay 30s annually, the same as persons wtra incomes ranging up to £20.000 a y ear - It is considered that as the workers are not responsible for the unemployment problem, they should not be unjustly taxed to provide against i» effects on the community, and an appeal *is made to labour organisations, both industrial and political, to ‘^PP® 5 ® this vicious principle.” and to Labour members of Parliament “to fight tne proposal tooth and nail.”
