DE SOTO EIGHT
LOW PRICE, HIGH QUALITY i NEW CAR COMES TO TOWN Latest product of Chrysler Motors, and companion to the De Soto Six, the new De Soto Straight Eight, is now on view at the showroom of Todd Motors, Upper Queen Street. i While this new car is claimed to be i the lowest priced eight in the world, !it will certainly take its place in the fine car field, incorporating as it does many improvements and refinements of Chrysler origin. The sedan model displayed is characterised by low centre of gravity, roominess, and relaxed motoring comfort provided by the “Mono-piece” steel body with which the new De Soto Straight Eight is equipped. With this type of body line scores of body parts prone to work loose and rattle, are done away with.
It permits body and chassis to be built as a unit, each strengthening tire other and, as both are of steel, they have a mutual flexibility not found in the older construction. LUBRICATION
In lubricating the eight-cylinder “Silver-dome” high compression engine, Chrysler engineers made sure that the oil is delivered to the exact point where it is needed by a full pressure system, operated by a pump. Drilled passages lead to all bearings and other important contact points, these passages being drilled rather than corded because drilling assures the exact dimensions required in each instance, and also leaves a smooth passage-way for the oil. NEW CARBURETTOR Another feature, and one that was first Introduced for passenger cars by Chrysler engineers, is the downdraft carburettor, which takes advantage of the force of gravity in feeding the gas to the cylinders, and gives better performance in high and low gear and in acceleration. In the De Soto this carburettor is provided with an acceleration pump, and the fuel is brought from the tank by a mechanical pump instead of by vacuum.
