“AT THE VILLA ROSE” A thrilling murder mystery story adapted from the novel by A. E. W. Mason, is the attraction at the Strand Theatre in the British talkie, "At the Villa Rose.” Miss Nora Baring is the heroine, a young girl who has been adopted by an eccentric French woman of fabulous wealth, on account of alleged mediumlstic powers which the girl claims to possess. She contrives to dupe the old lady for many years, but her deceit is harmless, as she has no designs upon the famous collection of jewels which she knows is in the house. During a seance the old lady is murdered and suspicion falls on the girl, who disappears. The crime is investigated bv the famous French detective. Hanaud, who finally makes a daring arrest. A cast of London stage celebrities appears in the chief roles. The lilm was made by the company which produced -Rookery Nook” and "Saplmters.” . A full supporting programme or talkie items is also being shown.
