NINE TRIPS OVERSEA

MR. F. D. THOMSON'S LONG RECORD FIVE PRIME MINISTERS Although the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, has now embarked upon his first trip outside New Zealand, the permanent head of his department, Mr. F. D. Thomson, is an official traveller of long experience. For Mr. Thomson the present journey to London will be the ninth of its kind. He has served under five Prime Ministers, from Richard Seddon to George Forbes. “Yes, for me this is a real busman’s holiday,” Mr. Thomson told The Siun this morning. Irreproachably attired, he stood at the foot of the Aorangi's gangway. The signal “visitors ashore” had been given.

“It means moving our office from Wellington to London, with a greater concentration of work at the other end,” he said. “The party with Mr. Forbes constitutes one of the strongest teams of its kind that has left New Zealand—the strongest in my experience.”

Mr. Thomson had his first trip with the Hon. Richard Seddon in 1902,

when the great Liberal attended the Coronation of King Edward VII. and visited South Africa. His last voyage to the Homeland was with the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates in 1926. As head of the Prime Minister’s department Mr. Thomson has served under Mr. ffLdon, Mr. Massey, Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. Coates and Mr. Forbes.
