POLICY CAUSES DISPUTE IN SYDNEY CITY

MANAGER’S SALARY RAISED Reed. 11.20 a.m. SYDNEY. Today. Alderman has resigned the chairmanship of the Citizens’ Reform Party in the Sydney City Council. His action is the outcome of the party’s recommendation that the salary of Mr. Forbes Mackay, the elec tricity manager, be raised by £I.OOO. “If necessary,” he said, “I will resign and re-contest' the seat in the Fitzroy Ward.” At a meeting on August 14 the Reform members of the City Council agreed to It recommendation of the Electricity Committee to increase the salary of Mr. Forbes Mackay, manager of the electricity department, from £2,000 to £3,000 a year. At the same meeting a motion submitted by the Reform members to bring the council’s employees under the Public Service Wages Reduction Act was carried. This means a cut of 8 J.-3 per cent in wages.
