CAUGHT AFTER CHASE
YOUTH SURPRISED IN SUBURBAN HOME REMANDED FOR A WEEK Found in a house in Moa Road, Point Chevalier, at about 9 o’clock on Saturday evening and captured after an exciting chase through adjoining sections, David Baden Powell, a labourer, aged 22, appeared at the. Police Court today and was remanded until September 1. pOWELL was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Benjamin Joseph Bull, 5 Moa Road, Point Chevalier, on August 23. In asking for a remand, Chief-Detective Hammond said that there were other charges to investigate. | On his return after an absence of 25 minutes on Saturday evening, Mr. B. J. Bull discovered that his house had been entered through a window opening on to the porch. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bull then heard a noise in a back bedroom and, shortly afterward, from a position near the front of the house, Mr. Bull saw the light of a torch and a man’s face pressed against the window-pane. Mrs. Bull had gone for the police. Later, the' man got out of a window and was chased by Mr. Bull, who lost him, but later heard him at the foot of the section. Together with Mr. J. Cain, who lives nearby, Mr. Bull chased the man through a fence and across some vacant sections. The quarry ran across Moa Street into Tui Street, where he was caught by Mr. Cain, and held until the arrival of the police. Nothing of value was stolen from Mr. Bull’s house, though two rooms were ransacked.
