CIVIC
“LADIES LOVE BRUTES” Frederic March and Mary Astor provide the supporting leads for Georgo Bancroft in his newest Paramount picture, “Ladies Love Brutes,” which is delighting audiences at the Civic Theatre. "Ladies Love Brutes” is the story of the fortunes of a red-blooded, twofisted, structural steel worker, who becomes such a success at his trade that he sets up in business for himself, as a building contractor. He quickly finds that his business will only expand in direct ratio to his popularity in social circles, and so he tries to become a success in the social life of the big town. The manner in which Bancroft mixes fists with manners provides the basic stuff for this thrill-packed tale of true life. The play is based on an original stage production, “Pardon My Glove,” by Zoe Akins. Rowland V. Lee. director of “The AVolf of Wall Street,” was the megaphoner. The cast includes Stanley Fields, David Durand, Freddie Burke Frederick, Ferike Boros. Margaret Quimby, Lawford Davidson, Claud Allister and E. H. Calvert. An enjoyable supporting programme is also being shown. At the Civic grand organ Mr. G. Paulsen plays “In a Monastery Garden” and the Civic Concert Orchestra, under Mr. Howard Moody, plays "Orpheus in the Underworld,” as well as the half-hour introductory session. “The Cuckoos,” a riotously funny comedy bv Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey, will be the new talkie attraction at tho Civic. Wheeler and Woolsey will be remembered as the two comedians in “Rio Rita,” but their work in “The Cuckoos” far outshines their previous efforts.
