TWO-YEAR-OLD PARADE EVENT AT ELLERSLIE BONNY LEA WINS SPRINT A good deal of -interest was mani- j fested UP the two-year-old parade at j Ellerslie on Saturday morning. Fif- ; teen youngsters were carded, but three i scratchings and one late arrival reduced the number to eleven. A good start saw the chestnut Leigh ton-Valvate gelding jump out brilliantly from an outside position. Then Bonny Lea, orr the inside, soon caught him, and she finished full of running to beat Royal Gallant and the Leighton-Valvate gelding by a couple of lengths. Then, after a gap. came Herbie (Surveyor—Pell), Hawthorne (Lucullus —Little Flower). and the Leighton—Comedienne gelding, who were together. Bonny Lea looks like coming to hand early. She is a racy-looking filly by Arausio from Waterlea. owned by Mr. X. Wade. Royal (Gallant is a real good looker, and one that may develop into a brilliant performer. He has size and quality, and displayed grit and determination. The Leighton—Valvate gelding is forward enough to be considered when the nursery races commence a month hence.
