NOT A STRANGER
NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE WAS SERGEANT HERE Inspector S. Till, who has been appointed superintendent of the Auckland Head District to succeed Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, is no stranger to this city. Mr. Till was a district clerk when it was decided that clerks with 10 years’ service should be promoted to the rank of sergeant. He wras then stationed as a sergeant in Auckland. He later went to Christchurch, where he and Mr. J. Mcllvenev were sub-inspectors together. Mr. Till was promoted to the rank of inspector in 1924 when he was placed in charge of the Wanganui district. Inspector J. Mcllvenev, of Auckland, who is to relieve Inspector Till at Wanganui, has been in charge of that district before. Mr. Mcllvenev was transferred to the police force from the artillery in 1595, serving in Auckland as a constable. He became a detective and was promoted to be de-tective-sergeant. After 17 years he was transferred to Wellington and was there about six years. A transfer to Christchurch was My. Mellvenev’s next move, and he had not been there long before he was made chief detective. About 1921, Mr. Mcllvenev came to Auckland as chief detective. He returned to Christchurch as a subinspector two years later, but remained in the South only a year before being sent to Wanganui as inspector in charge of the district. A transfer to Auckland came 18 months later, and now Mr. Mcllvenev is returning to Wanganui. It is believed that the changes will take effect from the end of this month.
