German Talkies May Come Here
EMIL JANNINGS IN “THE BLUE ANGEL” According to advice received from Mr. W. Ladendorff, U.F.A. representative for Australia and New Zealand, several German talkies may be brought to this country in the near future. Mr. Ladendorff’s letter is the outcome of au article in The Sun’s Film Section for July 19, which reviewed Kmi 1 Januings’s first German-made talkie, “The Blue Angel,” also a production entitled “The Last Company,” starring Conrad Veidt. He writes:— “This film, ‘The Last Company,’ has not been made as a soundsynchronised film, but right from the very beginning as a full dialogue film. Probably your correspondent has seeu the film, ’The White Devil,’ which was released in Germany as a sound-synchronised picture. The talkie version of the ’White Devil’ was taken afterward in London.” There is a possibility that the films mentioned, together with another entitled "The Immortal Vagabond,” will he brought to New Zealand. ' “The White Devil” includes the Don Cossacks Choir and “The Blue Angel” already has been very favourably reviewed abroad.
